On 12 and 13 November 2026 Madrid hosts the 3rd Animal Welfare Forum organised by El Refugio del Burrito, a meeting devoted to equine welfare for professionals, public bodies and sector organisations.
The forum was created as an annual meeting point for legal experts, veterinarians, institutional representatives, universities, law enforcement, prosecutors and animal protection organisations. Its second edition, held in Madrid in March 2025 in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumer Affairs and Agenda 2030 and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, addressed the legislative challenges of equine protection in Spain, criminal protection, protocols for seized or abandoned animals, the "One Health, One Welfare" approach, the social licence of equestrian activities, and education and responsible ownership.
