A reference centre
for the equine sector →

In 2019, Yeguada Cartuja was designated the National Zootechnical Reference Centre for the Equine Sector (CENRE) by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA) (Royal Decree 45/2019), with the mission of driving the development, conservation, improvement and innovation of the equine sector in Spain.

CENRE works to strengthen the equine value chain through actions aimed at genetic improvement, the conservation of equine breeds, support for breeding programmes and the promotion of new economic development opportunities linked to the horse. Its lines of action include the creation and management of germplasm banks, the conservation of genetic resources, the dissemination of livestock improvement and collaboration with breeders' associations and sector organisations.

As a national reference centre, CENRE promotes cooperation between government bodies, companies, research centres and professional organisations, fostering knowledge transfer, innovation and the professionalisation of the sector.

Its activity contributes to the growth of a strategic field that goes beyond the agricultural and livestock sector, generating employment, boosting equestrian tourism, promoting sporting activity and strengthening the contribution of the equine industry to the economic and social development of Spain.
