From 21 to 23 September 2026 the Salón de los Arcos of the Alcázar of Jerez de la Frontera hosted this seminar of the 2nd Jerez Summer Courses of the University of Cádiz (16 contact hours, 9:00–14:30), with practical sessions at the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art. Coordinated by Rafael Olvera Porcel, managing director of the Royal School.

Its aim: to improve training in equestrian sport, in veterinary and legal sciences and in horse handling and care, from an interdisciplinary perspective. Aimed at university students and professionals from the veterinary, legal, equestrian sport and show sectors, and at sports technicians.

Programme

  • Veterinary programme: theory and practice on the welfare of the Pura Raza Española horse in sport and shows, including a session assessing stress in the horses taking part in the Royal School's show.
  • Legal programme: the new legal status of animals (Law 17/2021), animal welfare and its regulation (Law 7/2023 and Andalusian rules, transport), animal welfare in sport and shows (federation rules, civil and administrative liability) and the criminal protection against animal abuse (Organic Law 3/2023).
  • Visits to the Yeguada del Bocado (EXPASA) and to the Army Horse Breeding Unit – Yeguada Militar.
